Berlin's Pergamon Museum is well known for its jaw-dropping reconstructions, but none is more impressive than the Ishtar Gate (Arabic: بوابة عشتار), the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon. Some of the Netherlands most head-scratching buildings are, without a doubt, Rotterdam's Cube Houses. Why, you ask? In the 1970s, architect Piet Blom was asked by Rotterdam town planners to solve the dilemma of building houses on top of a pedestrian bridge. Blom came up with the concept of "living as an urban roof", which translated into tilting the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and resting it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. Unconventional? Perhaps. A Rotterdam must-see? Absolutely. . . . #mytiqets#kubuswoning
