The Benefits of Nasal Breathing on Long Runs ~ Long runs should be spent in a predominantly aerobic zone if we aim to build an aerobic base that allows us to perform well at our next race. ~ The moment that we begin to breathe through the mouth anaerobic processes begin to occur. ~ In order to avoid an unnecessary shift in the fuel that we are using (oxygen/aerobic, glycogen/anaerobic) while creating more waste to buffer and a higher degree of stress on the body we have our athletes prioritize nasal only breathing for the vast majority of their training. ...
"I am suffocated and lost when I have not the bright feeling of progression." -Margaret Fuller, one of the great feminists of the 1800s. I found this ledge with a helpful chart that depicts my unfortunate lack of progression somewhere on the Baldface Circle Trail last week.
15 solo miles on the Baldfaces today! Climbed about 5500 feet...but was almost eaten alive by mosquitoes! I’m literally covered in bug bites...but it was worth it! Wanted to do the full 19 but definitely had enough of the bugs! Look at those gorgeous views!!! #baldfaces#nh
We tackled the incredible Baldface Circle Trail today summiting both South (3,547’) and North (3,606’) Baldface and completed the loop for a total of 10 miles! 05/08/19 Nine point eight miles. Maybe a bit ambitious for our first hike this early in the season but we did it! Next time we will set up camp first, we drove home after this one 😂 Grateful to live so close to the White Mountains! Shot from the summit of South Baldface, walking up to the north summit before descending (note all the snow on the north summit!) #hikewithdogs
South Baldface this past Saturday in NH is a serious skin but a really fun glade down! Thanks to @drift_products it was easy to travel in the backcountry! I'm excited to return when conditions are better!📷-@snowman11919 . . . #driftboards#southbaldface
Walter, our shop dog, is always eager for a mid day snack. . . . Walter sets a blazing pace on the uphills. For his human to keep up, he modified an Alpha FL pack for ski mountaineering. Thoughtful modification of our gear lies at the core of who we are as a company: designers. Do you have any subtle tweaks you make to your gear to make it work better? We are eager to hear and celebrate you. photo: @alexandraroberts #arcteryx#arcteryxlife
Mama Nature lighting up the rooms in the house of my soul today on Baldface Knob/South Baldface. Absolute bulletproof wind blown garbage up top but fun nonetheless. Thanks @granite_bc for the playground today.
