I backpacked in the Cascades over the weekend and the views were terrible. Nothing but a snowcapped volcano, waterfall, alpine lake, valley, and pink sunset. JK, it was amazing. Only downside was the mosquito plague. I wore bug repellant clothing and was lucky to escape with just 30 bites. There was also some miscommunication about who was bringing a tent...so we had no tent. Thankfully, the mosquitos went to bed when we did, and it was a dry night. The moon was so bright, I thought @xxtralost had left her lantern on near my head. We hiked the Goat Ridge ...
How I spent the last 4 days: water bars and rock work and drain dips, oh my. The largest section of trail improvement we did - transformed from a thigh high rut of a trail. Such a sense of accomplishment and great teamwork! . . . @washingtontrails @mshinstitute #trailmaintenance#trailbuilding
12 miles with my hubs and baby girl, I'd call it a great day. Longest hike yet with baby Kayja! She mostly snoozed on my chest, had a few boob snacks, stared in awe of the trees and got to dangle her toesies into the crisp, fresh water for the first time!
We explored a new and awesome trail today. Cowlitz River Trail ( #44) to Jug Lake was run-able, loaded with massive trees, and capped with a stunning mountain lake that is surrounded by mountain meadows. Legs are tired, heart is full. The #epictrails near the just don’t end! ⛰🏃🏽♀️ • • • • • •
We were lucky to snag probably the best campsite this weekend at the Lower Falls Campground in Cougar, Wa! Such a beautiful area!! Love wandering where the signals are weak, I heard you get a better connection 🤪
I had soooo much fun on my first backpacking trip! I got a little braver in the water, carried my own pack and impressed mom and dad with all of climbing I was doing! I’m the happiest girl when I’m out there on the trail 😊 . . . . . #bernerbaby#bernesepuppy
Mama’s first backpacking trip! I’m so proud of her for stepping way outside of her comfort zone, allowing me and @kitfoxvalentin to share a glimpse of what we love about the great outdoors and the beauty of this land here in the PNW.
Another hot one!! ☀️As much as I love the sunshine and warmth of summer, I find times when I look forward to winter and then vice versa. As much as this photo holds a special meaning to me, I always enjoy coming back here to stare it in the face and know that I won that day... off to a special spot tonight! Lookin forward to some awesome conditions tonight and tomorrow morning 😍. . . . #cascadiaexplored#washingtonexplored @explorewashstate @washingtonexplored @depths.of.earth @earthfocus @cascadiaexplored @pnwonderdogs @pnwondergear @pnwonderland @pnwisbeautiful @planet_earth_shots @discovery.hd @pnwisbeautiful ...
Yesterday ventured out on my own drove south I-5 to do the Upper Ape Cave which was a thigh burner and ankle breaker. Then drove further up to Lower Lewis Falls. The lot was full so had to park a mile up the road but it gave me the opportunity to hike a bit of the Lewis Falls Trail which was nice. The lower Falls was crazy packed. Then drove up HWY 25 which is rough, even in a 4-Runner, to come full circle around St. Helen’s and back home. ❤️PNW
Day 2: Not exactly a smooth start to the day... some minor repairs needed after being tossed around on that old logging road a day prior and then reaching my connecting trail to find it unrideable... at least for my skill-level. I definitely tried but there was no way I was going through. No biggie, this old forest road boasted some beautiful views of Mt Adams. Backtracked and took another route to the trail I had been wanting to ride. #mountainbiking#mtb
Thinking about the ramen bomb I’d make for dinner🍴 you can’t see it here but we’d just walked past an incredible little waterfall, the rain turned to mist, we were surrounded by wildflowers, and even got a teeny glimpse of Mount Adams! All this combined with an easy 14 mile day put this smile on my face. Washington’s not all that bad. . . . . . . #hikertrash#eatwellbewell
