We didn’t get the sunrise photos over the edge of the Amphitheatre that we’d hoped to get. (We were too scared to go more than 10m from the cliff in case we got blown off with the wind 😂) But the view on the walk up was still so beautiful and that just means that we’ll definitely have to go again!
went back to where i came from and hiked with the San, our earliest human ancestors. took a DNA test; turns out i’m 100% that bitch that’s still gotta tell y’all u ain’t african. hate to see it 🧬 #thegiftalbum
• •✨🕺🏾⛰• Set in Stone • Sometimes you find yourself in scenarios that are so breathtaking, you forget what to do with your arms so you stretch them out towards the view and try and hold unto the moment. Soft light poured into the Amphitheatre valley from between the clouds as fog began to roll over the hills in the distance. If this is what every morning looked like, then I’m most definitely a morning person. Stay Adventurous Dear Friends!! #wanderlust#travelers
The Amphitheatre. The escarpment we’ve wanted to hike up for years, but just never got around to doing. We had seen so many beautiful pictures of this place and were desperate to experience it for ourselves. So, on Thursday we got into the car to begin our adventure.. 90km/h wind, -7 degree temperatures, a destroyed tent, forgotten clothes, a 25m chain ladder and a looming snow storm. These things all mixed together resulted in night we’ll never forget. Check out our story for the details of our crazy night on the mountain ⛰
When we deny what is worse about ourselves, we also deny what is best. We repress our ignorance and thus we deny our capacity to learn. We Repress our faults and thus we deny our capacity to change. We forget that it is our flawed human self, not an avatar, who creates things, and reconsiders, and forgives and shows mercy. - Tara Westover #mountaintherapy#therapy
The Drakensberg range, formed as a result of the ancient break up of the Gondwanaland during the Jurassic time. This break up was also what separated present day South Africa and South America..Awhhh... Sometimes love’s just ain’t enough. 🤣🌍💔 #throwback
Look out for the Drakensberg escarpment or the roof of South Africa! The Amphitheatre hike is pretty popular amongst travellers. It takes around 5-6 hours and can be done within a day (pretty easy when you’re not carrying a 20kg backpack with you). It takes you up to this spot and that’s it. You can even do it without a guide. - Initially, I was tempted to go with this option, but having seen pictures of sunrise from the Amphitheatre and having come this far to South Africa I just couldn’t settle for nothing short of extraordinary. So I started ...
"If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them."- Bruce Lee Some wisdom to accompany this mountain sunrise in the Drakensberg!
Love running wild and free in the wilderness. Thanks @cindylwhite76 for the epic drakensburg mission that allowed me to run freely and my soul sore high. Such an epic mission. . . . #trailtuesday#trailrun
THE AMPHITHEATER | I mean... is this sunrise even real? Waking up to this breathtaking view after an eventful night of thunderstorms lightning rain hail wind is so worth it. . Lessons learned? 1) ALWAYS check the weather before you go to The Berg. 2) ALWAYS wake up to watch the sunrise #youwillnotregretit#blessed
More memories from our Amphitheatre hike last weekend. ⠀⠀ It was my first time using my @deuter pack and I loved it! Don’t think I’ve got it quite fitted right but even with that I didn’t have any issues. Love that the colours match my @kathmandugear cap. I have a bit of a thing for blue. ⠀⠀ Can’t wait to really put it to the test with a multi day hike once I’m back in NZ. #drakensberg#amphitheatre
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” - Widely regarded as one of the most impressive cliff faces on earth, the Amphitheatre is roughly three times the size of the total combined area of all the cliff faces in El Capitan. To be able to stand on top of it is just surreal - not to mention this incredible sunrise! Definitely one of the best I’ve ever seen! - In hindsight, I’d have loved to stand a little closer to the ...
Have you ever walked along the Tugela River, just before it plummets over 948 meters down the Drakensberg escarpment? This is what it looks like covered in snow! . My bags are packed, waiting for the next big snowfall, waiting for another snowy adventure. . #drakensberg#winter
South Africa is filled with abundant beauty, but The Amphitheatre in the Northern Drakensberg surely has to be up there?! 🌅👌 The popular Amphitheatre hike is often considered to be one of the most scenic mountain hikes in the world - Starting at Sentinel Car Park, it takes around 3 hours to wind to the top. The Drakensberg Amphitheatre. ⠀⠀ What an adventure it was to reach this point. ⠀⠀ I’ll be sharing our journey to the top in my stories soon. ⠀⠀ But for now all I will say is that it was one of the most beautiful places I have set foot and was worth every challenge we faced to get there. ⠀⠀ Thanks @michaelsheridanlake for being a good friend and snapping pics for me. #drakensberg#amphitheatre
